THERE IS FURTHER RESEARCH TO DO - No baptism has been found so far for Ann Mendham, who according to her burial, that has the only reference to her age, she would have been born somewhere around 1785. Her father may have been the John Mendham below having children baptised at Terrington St. John:
John Mendham single and Ann Taylor widow married in 1789.
John Mendham, son of John, buried in 1792.
Maria Mendham, daughter of John and Judah 1793. - Possibly the witness at Ann's 1808 marriage.
(No death of Ann (Taylor) or marriage to Judith found.)
John Mendham buried at Upwell after a Coroner's inquest in 1794. He is the only John Mendham found buried locally.
Curley Mendham, daughter of John and Judah Mendham baptised in May 1796. John Long?
John Long single to Judith Mindham, widow, married by licence in July 1796.
Curley Long, daughter of John and Judith Long, buried in 1797.
Mark Long, son of John and Judith Long, buried 1800. - Mark was used by Ann for her eldest son.
Curley Long, daughter of John Long and Judith, late widow Mendham, baptised in 1802.
John Long, labourer, aged 49 years, buried in 1807.
Maria Mendham and John Garrett married in 1812. They had a daughter in 1813.
Caroline Long to Wm. Tagg married by licence in 1821 with consent of bride's mother Judith Long.
(Caroline has been found in the 1871 census. Her age calculates to a 1802 birth. Curley?)
Judith Long buried in 1835, aged 80 years.
Ann Mendham had an illegitimate child Elizabeth Mendham baptised in 1806.
Elizabeth Mendham married Robert Burton, of Walpole St. Peter, in 1836.
Sarah Ann Mendham and James Ward were married in 1846. One of the witnesses was Wm. Long.
Sarah Ann may have been Elizabeth's daughter. Sarah Ann, in the 1851 census, was born in 1827.
If John Mendham turns out to be the father of the Ann Mendham, at the top of this page, then his first wife Ann Taylor, widow, seems likely to have been her mother. Previously to marrying John Mendham Ann had been the second wife of Richard Taylor of Terrington St. John:
Richard Taylor and his first wife Mary had children, Millicent Taylor baptised in 1770, John Coy Taylor 1771, William Taylor 1774, Sarah Taylor 1777, Thomas Taylor (burial only), Susannah Taylor 1781, and Richard Taylor 1782.
Mary Taylor, wife of Richard Taylor, died from smallpox, and was buried in 1783.
(No marriage has been found to his second wife Ann.)
Abigail daughter of Richard and Ann Taylor baptised in 1784. - Married in 1816.
Mary Taylor daughter of Richard and Ann Taylor baptised in 1786.
Ellen Taylor daughter of Richard and Ann Taylor baptised in 1788.
Also Elizabeth Taylor, a servant, daughter of Richard and Ann Taylor. was buried in 1802. Age 16.
Richard Taylor, a farmer, was buried in 1788.
Ann Taylor, widow, married John Mendham in 1789. She had died by 1793.
