HOW WE USED TO LIVE - Family History

ELIZABETH PERRY was baptised in Little Fransham on the 22nd of July 1770.

1846 26th February. Burial in Little Fransham churchyard.

CHILD of Elizabeth:

JOHN PERRY was baptised on the 7th August 1799.

1823 19th October. Married Clara Wright, daughter of Samuel and Mary Wright.

Children: William Christmas Perry 1824,  James Perry 1828, George Perry 1831, Samuel Perry 1833, Harriet Perry 1836, Emma Perry 1841.

THERE IS FURTHUR RESEARCH TO DO - Elizabeth Perry is a mystery. In the 1841 census she was enumerated as a widow! She may have actually been living with someone who died before 1841. It is a little unusual to have an illegitimate child at the age of 29 and so it is possible she had had an earlier child or children.

Checks have been made on James Poll who Elizabeth Perry was living with in the 1841 census in case of a connection between the two of them. James Poll was actually James Wright Poll illegitimate son of an Elizabeth Poll and he was baptised at Little Fransham in 1815. His mother Elizabeth Poll eventually married a James Wright in 1821 and one of the witnesses to the marriage was Sarah Poll. Most likely Sarah was a relative, perhaps Elizabeth Poll's sister or mother. Neither Elizabeth Poll or Sarah Poll, have turned up in any baptism records, or indeed James Wright.

James Poll and his wife and family emigrated to Australia in 1852. He stated on the ship's papers his parents were James Wright and Elizabeth Poll. His father was then living in Mileham.

In the 1851 census James Wright appears not to have known where he was born and his wife had already died. James Wright's age in the 1851 was 72 years. He had reached 80 when he died at Mileham in 1856. James Wright and his wife Elizabeth Poll had other children including a Philip, Susan, John, Pleasance and Charles. James Wright may have been a relative of Clara Wright who James Perry later married.
