EAGLE - In some cases the surname of Eagle may have simply been derived from a nickname. There is a place by the name of Eagle in Lincolnshire that could have also led to the origin of some of the Eagle surnames, and another in Normandy. It has been suggested this surname arrived in England not long after the Norman Conquest of 1066. The name is concentrated in East Anglia with the majority of the records appearing to be in Suffolk.  By the sixteenth century, it is already well-established name in Norfolk. There are documented variations of the Eagle surname, during that time, found all around the county, namely in North Creake in 1538, Ellingham in 1542, Great Yarmouth from 1548, Norwich from 1559, Great Plumstead in 1561, Halvergate in 1562, Feltwell in 1564, Docking from 1570, Overstrand from 1570, King's Lynn in 1579, Carbrooke in 1593, Repps with Bastwick in 1596, Brancaster in 1598 and Holt in 1599.
